The Smart Bro Scam

It seems that the Smart Bro wireless internet service is advertising again in Philippine TV. I very much disdained by the such a move from Smart Bro. Ok, lets say that they do cover much more area than any broadband service in the Philippines, but they still yet to address their horrible quality of service. I read an ad on a local broadsheet that Smart Bro now capable of 512 kbps, but based on experience (from my cousin who is a Smart Bro user), download speed is at 40 kbps! Man that’s slow! One got to wonder, are you willing to pay P999 per month for a lousy download speed?! It’s highway robbery, I tell you. If you are a Filipino computer user ready to take the plunge to broadband internet access, look for other options. You will be sorry with the quality of service Smart Bro is giving. It’s a total scam!

    It’s ridiculous! I could get a 40KBps download speed from a 128Kbps internet connection. This is 3W Tech! Third World Technology at its finest!

    ever wonder why 384 kbps = 40kBps… iba ang kilobits sa kilobytes… sa sinasabi ni lightbulb… how can you achieve 40kbps download from a 128kbps? its either 384kbps connection mo or your making stuff up… divide any published speeds by 8 and thats your download speed…

    i’m a smart bro user, actually in my bandwidth test i only get 250 – 320 kbps average. ok na rin kesa wala. i dont have any choise. in our area, yun lang ang available

    I am currently using SmartBRO, and although at first it was pure crap, the DNS servers at Meridian Telkom kept screwing up, so I kept calling them up. Their first response is a base station problem, finally I have to explain to them that I have a masters degree in computer science, and I have already tested the connection and found the problem in the DNS. This went on for about a 2 week period of me calling every day and refusing to hang up till they call Meridian Telkom and have the DNS reset.

    At the time I was getting maybe 125 kbps.

    Now since that 2 week time period right after signing up and complaining daily. I have not had any problems, as a matter of fact, I am at this very moment pushing 75kbps in downloading, but it is still not fast enough, since for the price, stateside I can get my own static IP and 3.5 mbps

    None the less, they got tired of dealing with an irate foreigner and I am able to maintain an average of about 380kbps/215kbps.

    Oh yeah,

    Smart is putting over 1,000 accounts on an IP, that is why they cannot guarantee any speeds. They have 1 bank of IPs, roughly 3,218 of them. They also have well over 3,000,000 accounts.

    Smart Bro is a total scam I agree!!! 40kbs download speed is much much faster than what i get, its measured in bytes!!! yes bytes as in 400 to 900 bytes per second, that is if they have connectivity!!! So they sent a tech after I complained and things improved, now I get download speed of 3kbs, during odd hours ( 2-5am) it goes to 12 to 18kbs. imagine downloading files with file size of Mb. and they have the gall to advertise!!! They should be sued or for those that want to get even, i suggest you visit their booths at the malls or whereever and complain out loud tell potential costumers how bad their service is. I do it and it feels good to get even at those bastards!!!

    I totally agree Smartbro is a SCAM. They continue to deceive people and they should be ashamed. They will only give good service for people who has the capability to hurt them. I’m one of those dissatisfied customers who was duped by smart to pay charges for a service i did not receive. I was threatened by smart to pay my monthly bills or suffer legal consequences (although for 3 months I had no connection). Smart is a bully and continuing to deceive the Filipino people. I just hope you people out there will hear me and think twice before subscribing to smart. I assure you will only be disappointed.

    I call the attention of all elected officials to help and protect customers from companies like SMART who continues to steal/scam the people.

    There are tens of thousand of hits in a google search for this smartbro problem. Smart is ripping of many people and this is a problem of national importance. Consider the amount of money that smart is stealing. Stealing from hard working folks, folks that rely on their internet connection for their school, work, business, and communication around the globe.

    It looks like smart will continue the ripoff by appearing to be concerned and providing dubious support and building false hopes of problem resolution. The problem will continue because it’s unsolveable.

    Smart may be just keeping the cash flowing in for now, and plan to roll out WiMax sometime in the future when they can no longer deceive subscribers.

    Some say and I quote: “If you don’t like the smartbro service don’t pay”. I warn you guys. I’ve been given demand letters 3 times for not paying my dues. I decided not to pay for a service promised but not given. Despite my complaints and emails, I still got those damn demand letters from smart/pldt lawyers. They want me to pay ASAP or suffer legal consequences. You know how much I paid for the interest alone? P8,000.00. Grabe! I just felt helpless and I wanted to cry. I don’t have the resources or the know how on how to take smart/pldt to court. After paying SMART I felt i have been duped and robbed by SMART. I suggest if you make complaints make use of your email and document everything. This will be your evidence if you plan to go to court. If possible email smart everyday for your complaints. For those who plan to subscribe to SMARTBRO I suggest you do not continue. My SMARTBRO is now disconnected and the urge for revenge is eating me. But what can I do? Damn you SMART. phota kayo!

    I just got my SMART BRO….Totoo nga..Ang sama ng download speed averaging at 40kbps..Ang YouTube nagpuputol putol ang video…Laking sisi ko talaga nagmadali ako..My friend said mas ok ang DESTINY CABLE INTERNET…. BAD TRIP KA SMART MAGANANAKAW KA!!!! Kayong mga nsa government…tulungan nyo kming consumers…

    Guys let’s support my friend, he has filed a complaint with NTC against Smart, he declined na makipagayos sa mediation, and wants to pursue an actual case sa Arbitration ng NTC, it’s been more than a month at wala pa ring reply ang NTC, we hope hindi nagkabayaran at walang corruption na nangyayari. Email him all your grievances (unitedagainstsmart@yahoo.com) para lumakas ang kaso nya against Smart, he’s looking for a volunteer NGO, and customers na dismayado. Pag hinayaan natin na hindi umabot sa NTC at hindi magkaroon ng justice sa kaso na ‘to, para na rin nating pinayagan ng lokohin tayo ng Smart at perahan ng perahan. Let’s help him help us.

    First of all let me say SmartBro is a FUCKing Shit service. I’ve been using this for 5 months now and every time I connect I can only get an average speed of 10kbps…that’s really SMARTBULLSHIT!!!! Where is the promise of 7x faster than dial-up (when dial up speed = 56kbps max)? So this is worse than dial up!!!! And every time I called up the call center they always tell me there is a “technical problem”….hello for 5 months already???? How long is this technical problem? I think it’s been forever since I also read from other people’s blog that this is smartbro since the beginning. To add insult to an injury, there is now a promise of “up to 2mbps speed on selected areas” where is that??? They did not even bother to give a single location. This is not supposedly a guessing game, this should be a simple YES or NO answer. Are they capable of delivering their promise???? YES or NO period. I’m an Electronics & Communications Engineer (ECE with Masters in Eng’g degree at MIT). I understand about baud rate or kbps rate, wireless transmission, signal loss, signal propagation, microwave link, line multiplexing, 3G, HSDPA, etc, etc. So I’m really super mad_x100 with those FUCKING technical problem alibis. This is business so it is more likely that SMART don’t want to invest more on this thing. They don’t want to buy more hardware to increase bandwidth. They don’t want to spend more MONEY in this time of crisis!!! If that is the case then I’m willing to accept that rather than those FUCKING alibis. If SMART cannot solve it then it is not a PROBLEM, it is the REALITY of the situation!!! They should be named “STUPID” not “SMART”. My point is they should be honest in doing business and giving promises to their customers. Buti nalang I’m prepaid so I am not bind to the 1 year subscription. I can only imagine the misery of those people having to stick to smartbro with 1 year contract!!! That’s really Bullshit. Advertisements are so good that they lure more people buying the kit. If they spent that advertising money in buying more equipment to improve bandwidth of this fucking wireless internet then may be we are writing here praises to them. But since this is our reality right now, so we will keep on shouting here BULLSHIT to SMARTbro. Hindi kasama dito ang mga engineers – I know they proposed to increase the bandwidth and I’m sure they presented to the management the impact. Engineers are doing their job but business is business people you cannot improve if you don’t have the MONEY. So to hell with the SMART management!!!! At least I’m relieve of some kind of stress as I wrote this….

    Help. Smartbro threatened me to take my case in court if i do not pay for smartbro internet services that they have not been providing – why? – cos it’s simply not working!

    Please help me. They are stressing me out. I do not think it’s fair for them to charge me for services they do not provide. In fact, I paid for shitty services already :( what more do they want?
