bayanDSL Christmas Gift?!

A few days ago, I found something astounding with our bayanDSL connection. While downloading some stuff on Bittorent, I saw my download speed was around 70-80+ kbps! For all I know, your subscription just up to 384 Kbps (roughly about up to 48 kbps download speed). I did some answers from the Web. According to pinoydsl.net and tipidpc.com, bayanDSL will have speed updates for their DSL subscriptions, starting November 1. For us 384 Kpbs users, there will be an upgrade up to 768 kbps and SOD (Speed on Demand) will be 1 Mbps. Technically, it’s still not November 1, but our household already enjoying this early Christmas gift from bayanDSL. That means more Linux ISO downloads for me, he he he… :D

The Proofs:

Speedtest.net Result

Speakeasy.net Result:

UPDATE 1: It seems to be just a test. As of today (Nov. 1), it returned to 384 kbps speeds :( I think we need to call up bayanDSL on the second week of November to avail of the speed upgrade… >:(

UPDATE 2: We already requested for the Speed Upgrade, as of today (Nov. 9), we now experiencing 768 kbps speeds :D

Bypass Megaupload Country Slot Limit

Ever needed to download something from Megaupload but frustrated with the (in)famous country slot limit? If you think you need to download the Megaupload Toolbar (which is spyware and Linux incompatible), think again. There’s another solution for you :) Megaupload SX 4.3 is a Firefox extension that circumvents the country slot limit, letting you download anything from the famous fille-storing service (although, it doesn’t deal with the speed limit problem). I have tested it on Iceweasel and it works like a charm. So go ahead, get it and enjoy :)

Microsoft Bullying Redhat

Well, what I have feared most have happened. Microsoft wants Redhat customers to pay up for M$ intellectual property. I don’t know if Microsoft is just plain stupid or plain idiotic. The question that begs to be answered is “On what grounds?”. Up to the current time, Micro$oft still wouldn’t say which IP or patents does the GNU/Linux infringes on, and now they are starting their Linux IP/patent attack on Redhat?! It’s totally absurd. I hope the Open Source community will support to fend off this new found attack on Linux. Ballmer and Co. needs to stop wasting their resources on such actions. Someone should nuke Micro$oft, I’ll be happy with that…
